Hi @dlinvill,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

To fix a Wi-Fi "handshake" or connection failure between your HP printer and desktop, clear the broken connection by restarting all devices, resetting the printer's Wi-Fi, and re-adding the printer using the HP APP to establish a fresh connection.

1. Hard Reset All Devices:

Disconnecting and restarting clears corrupted data in the device memory, which often prevents a successful connection handshake.

  • Turn off your desktop, printer, and Wi-Fi router.

  • Unplug the router and printer power cords from the wall.

  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.

  • Plug the router back in and wait until it is fully online.

  • Turn on the printer and your desktop.

2. Reset Printer's Network Settings:

If the printer is still not found by your computer, you need to put the printer back into Wi-Fi "Setup Mode" to forget old settings:

  • For printers with screens: Go to the Wireless or Setup menu and select Restore Network Settings.

  • For printers without screens: Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button (the "X") at the same time for 5 seconds until the Power button starts flashing. Wait until the wireless light blinks continuously to show it is ready.

3. Re-add Printer via the HP App:

The easiest way to complete the new handshake is using the official application.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
