HP ENVY All-in-One - 27-b114
Microsoft Windows 11

I have read a lot of so comments on this issue of the on/off switch for the HP510 wireless keyboard, but, regardless of that so called help, there is NO switch to turn on the keyboard as the instructions claim.  So, unless the switch is located under the label (which i doubt) where is the on switch for the HP510 wireless keyboard?  This is a new purchase all in one PC with this keyboard as part of the package.

Hi @goosphabah

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The HP510 wireless keyboard does not have a physical on/off switch. It is designed to power on automatically once batteries are installed and the USB wireless receiver is connected to your PC.

How the Keyboard Powers On

  • Automatic Activation: The keyboard is always in a ready state once batteries are inserted. There is no manual toggle switch.
  • Wireless Receiver Dependency: It becomes active when the USB wireless dongle is plugged into your PC.
  • Power Management: The keyboard uses internal power-saving features to conserve battery when idle.

Steps to Ensure Proper Function

Insert Batteries Correctly

  • Open the battery compartment on the underside of the keyboard.
  • Insert fresh AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity alignment.

Connect the Wireless Receiver

  • Plug the small USB receiver into an available USB port on your PC.
  • Wait a few seconds for Windows to automatically detect and install drivers.

Confirm Connection

  • Press any key to check if the keyboard responds.
  • If unresponsive, remove and reinsert the USB receiver into another port.

Check Battery Status

  • If the keyboard still does not respond, replace the batteries with new ones.
  • Ensure the battery contacts are clean and making firm contact.

Verify in Windows

  • Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & devices.
  • Confirm the wireless keyboard is listed and active.
  • If not detected, unplug and reinsert the receiver, then restart the PC.

Key Notes

  • No Hidden Switch: There is no switch under labels or panels; the keyboard is designed to be switchless.
  • Power Saving: The keyboard automatically enters a low-power mode when not in use, waking instantly when a key is pressed.
  • Indicator Light: Some units may have a small LED that briefly flashes when keys are pressed, confirming activity.

Troubleshooting Checklist

  • Fresh batteries installed correctly.
  • USB receiver firmly connected.
  • Keyboard tested after restarting the PC.
  • Verified in Windows device settings.

In summary, the HP510 wireless keyboard is switchless by design. Once batteries and the receiver are in place, it powers on automatically and manages energy internally. If it appears inactive, the issue is usually battery placement or receiver connection rather than a missing switch.
