@sirarahman20, Welcome to HP Support Community,

(Hey there! Wow, it sounds like your laptop is playing a wild game of "I’ll let Chrome through, but nothing else!"😎 – kind of like an exclusive VIP club for browsers, and the rest of your apps aren’t even on the guest list. Let's try to get them all in, shall we?💪)

Here’s a step-by-step plan that could work some magic:

Check Network Settings

You might be facing an IP address or DNS issue. Here's how to fix it:

a. Open Command Prompt (Admin):

  • Search for cmd in the Start Menu.
  • Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

b. Flush DNS:

  • Type the following command and press Enter:
    • ipconfig /flushdns
  • This clears the DNS cache, which could fix connection issues.

c. Renew IP Address:

  • Run these commands to ask your laptop for a fresh IP address:
    • ipconfig /release
      ipconfig /renew

d. Test Internet Connection via Command Line:

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) again.
  • Type the command:
    ping www.google.com
  • If it says “Request timed out” or something similar, your laptop cannot reach the internet, suggesting a deeper issue with the connection.

Try a Network Reset

This resets your network settings to default, giving your system a fresh start.

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
  • Scroll down and click on Network reset.
  • Click Reset now to restart your PC and restore network settings to default.
Note: You may need to re-enter your Wi-Fi password and reconnect to VPNs or specific DNS settings.

Use Your Phone as a Hotspot (for Updating)

If the update isn’t working due to no connection, you can use your phone as a hotspot:

  • Turn on the hotspot feature on your phone.
  • Connect your laptop to the hotspot and complete the update.
  • This is a short-term solution just to get the update going.

Reinstall Network Drivers (with Latest Version)

If you’ve already tried reinstalling drivers and it didn’t work, let’s try the newest ones from the manufacturer’s website:

  • Go to the HP Support and download the latest network drivers.
  • Install them, restart your laptop, and check if the issue is fixed.

Check Your Proxy Settings

Sometimes, a proxy server might block connections except for your browser:

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
  • Ensure Use a proxy server is turned off unless you specifically need one.

Disable/Enable Your Network Adapter

Try rebooting your network adapter to give it a fresh start:

  • Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  • Find Network adapters, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter, and select Disable.
  • Wait a few seconds, then right-click the adapter again and select Enable.

Check for Background Services/Apps Blocking the Internet

Sometimes, firewalls or antivirus apps can block internet access:

  • Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software.
  • Check if the connection works after disabling them.

Use Windows Network Troubleshooter

Windows has a built-in troubleshooter that can fix network issues:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Internet Connections.
  • Run the troubleshooter and let Windows try to detect and fix the issue.

Check the Hosts File

Your system’s hosts file might be blocking internet access for apps:

  • Go to: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
Ensure there are no strange entries like 127.0.0.1 that could block internet access.

Reset TCP/IP Stack

This resets your entire internet connection protocol:

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Type the following and press Enter:
    netsh int ip reset

Test with a Different Network

To narrow down whether the issue is with your laptop or router:

  • Connect your laptop to a different Wi-Fi network (like at a friend’s house).
  • If the issue persists on the new network, the problem is likely with your laptop.

Check for Malware or Adware

Malware or adware can disrupt your internet connection:

  • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or any trusted antivirus software you have installed.

Reinstall Networking Components

If the issue is still unresolved, try reinstalling the networking components:

  • Go to Device Manager > Network adapters.
  • Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows will automatically reinstall the driver

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it may indicate a deeper problem, such as an issue with your router or a more complex issue within the Windows network stack. However, since Chrome is functioning, there’s still a good chance we can resolve the underlying connectivity problem.

I hope your laptop doesn’t end up becoming like a rebellious teenager, only cooperating with Chrome! 😅

Please keep me updated on your progress, and feel free to reach out if you need further assistance. I’m happy to help! 🤝

Take care and have a good day.
