I contacted my internet provided with slow internet speed.  They asked me to check other devices.  My phone and my laptop speeds were 500 .  My desk top is only 10.  What do I need to do to fix my desktop HP to increase speed to what it should be.  THANK YOU!

@surfcitysmile, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

To address slow internet speeds on your HP desktop and bring them up to par with other devices, follow these steps:

Check Network Connections:

  • Ensure your desktop is properly connected to the network via Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.
  • Try switching between Ethernet and Wi-Fi to see if one connection type performs better.

Run Network Diagnostics:

  • Use the built-in network troubleshooting tools in Windows.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Internet Connections and follow the on-screen instructions.

Update Network Drivers:

  • Outdated network drivers can cause performance issues.
  • Open the Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager), expand Network adapters, right-click on your network adapter, and choose Update driver.

Check for malware:

  • Malware can slow down your system and network performance.
  • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or another reputable antivirus software.

Disable Background Applications:

  • Applications running in the background can consume bandwidth.
  • Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the Processes tab, and shut down unnecessary programs.

Test Different Network Settings:

  • Change the DNS server to a more reliable one. For example, use Google's DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
  • Open Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings: right-click your network connection, select Properties, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), and click Properties. Then enter the preferred and alternate DNS servers

Use HP Support Assistant:

  • Utilize HP Support Assistant to check for any system updates.
