Hi @currich,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your mouse might be experiencing some issues that are causing it to leave dialog boxes or create unintended actions on your screen. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check Mouse Settings

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Mouse (on Windows) and check for any settings that might be causing this behavior, like pointer speed or click settings.

2. Clean the Mouse

  • If you're using an optical or laser mouse, make sure the sensor on the bottom is clean. Dirt can cause erratic movement.

3. Update Drivers

  • Check for updates for your mouse drivers. Go to Device Manager (you can search for it in the Start menu), find your mouse under "Mice and other pointing devices," right-click, and select Update driver.

4. Test with Another Mouse

  • If possible, try using a different mouse to see if the problem persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the mouse itself or your system.

5. Check for Software Conflicts

  • Sometimes third-party software can interfere with mouse functionality. If you have recently installed new software, try disabling or uninstalling it.

6. Scan for Malware

  • Run a full system scan using your antivirus software to ensure that malware isn’t causing the issue.

7. Check for Sticky Keys or Accessibility Features

  • Go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and make sure features like Sticky Keys are turned off, as they can affect mouse behavior.

8. Test in Safe Mode

  • Restart your computer in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists. If it doesn’t, this could indicate a software conflict.

9. Adjust Mouse Pointer Options

  • In Control Panel > Mouse > Pointer Options, try adjusting the pointer speed and unchecking the option for "Enhance pointer precision."

10. System Restore

  • If the problem started recently, you might consider performing a System Restore to revert your computer to a state before the issue began.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
