Hi @Ande67,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Cable Type:

  • Cat5 vs. Cat8: Upgrading from Cat5 to a higher category cable like Cat8 could potentially improve data transmission and provide better speed due to enhanced shielding and bandwidth capacity. Cat8 cables support up to 40 Gbps at shorter distances and are more suitable for extremely high-speed networks.
  • However, within the practical limit for most home networks, Cat5e or Cat6 usually suffices for gigabit speeds, assuming the network infrastructure supports it.

Network Card and Drivers:

  • Ensure your network card supports gigabit speeds and the drivers are up-to-date. Confirm through Device Manager under Network Adapters.

Configure Network Settings:

  • Go to Network & Internet in Settings, check configurations in Ethernet settings to ensure no speed limitation settings are activated.

Interference and Hardware:

  • In some cases, the issue might be with other hardware or network interference. Ensure the modem and router are high-spec enough to handle and distribute the speed effectively.

Performance Settings:

  • Check if your computer’s performance settings might be limiting network speed. Go to Control Panel > Power Options and ensure it's set to high performance.

Testing with Different Devices:

  • If possible, test the speed with another device using the same Ethernet cable. If it achieves higher speeds, it might indicate an issue with your PC’s settings or hardware.

Addressing each of these points should help you better diagnose and potentially resolve the speed issue.

I hope this helps.
