@chaneyjr -- check the Windows "networking" settings.

Set it to "automatically obtain IP-address".

Do the same with the IP-addresses of the DNS-servers

Or, use "1.1.1.1" and/or "8.8.8.8" and/or "8.8.4.4" -- those DNS-servers should respond.

Nice try but that didn't work...I've already had an HP tech on the phone yesterday and they couldn't do a thing. But thanks anyway!

@chaneyjr -- the device or resource, (DNS server) is not responding ...

The new Motorola device should have a built-in DNS-server, to give IP-addresses to all your wired/WiFi devices.

The Motorola should also connect to your Internet Service Provider, to obtain an IP-address from the I.S.P.'s DNS-server, which should be responding . Usually, literally thousands of customers would be complaining if the I.S.P.'s DNS-server stopped responding.  Does your Motorola's lamps show that it has an Internet connection?

Are you running a "Windows Server" on your home network? It has its own DNS-server. Is that DNS-server "active" and working?

Ok, I apologize, I'm not sure what you mean by 'Windows server' on my network..?

@chaneyjr -- most-likely, your computer runs the "Windows Workstation" software.

But, Microsoft has the "Windows Server" software, designed to be used within a corporate network, to provide a shared "calendar" (so that employees can schedule meetings with others), E-mail services, file-storage services, web-services, and DNS-services, to name a few of the services it can run.

How do I find out? Because, honestly, I don't want to send the new modem back just to get another that doesn't work. Is the windows server software available to non-corporate people like me?

But, you do want to solve your problem.

Your ISP wants to keep you as a monthly-paying customer.

So, they will replace the modem, at their cost.

Yes, Microsoft will be glad to take your money.    🙂

Even a small non-profit organization will benefit from having a Windows Server system within their private network.
