It's in Windows Services, not Hp tools. Go to the Start menu and select "Run...". Type "services.msc". Now in the Services dialog, find "File Sanitizer for HP ProtectTool". Right click on it and select "Properties". Click on "Stop" button and change startup type to "Manual". Hit "Ok" and your done.

This "fix" does not work on my HP Pavilion Desk Top. I have tried to find the location of the "File Snaatizer" using the direction. I do not see either HP Protect tools or a file named "File Sanatizer". What am I missing in these steps or is there possibly another name?

I had the same problem with a brand new PNY 128GB drive. I think PNY messes up their firmware on their flash drives. I thought my drive was a dud and that I had wasted my money, but I used this firmware upgrade tool and now my drive works!
