2560 x 1080 resolution on external display - how?

Dear all,

• Just got a brand new Zbook 15u G4 and would like to connect to a LG 29UM58-P (DP2HDMI Kabel).
• Unfortunately only 1920 x 1080 works - and not the desired 2560 x 1080.
• Under Intel Grafic Settings in the infocenterthe display shows correctly as "Digitales Fernsehen LG Ultrawide" also 2560x1080 (60p Hz) in the list of available modi.
• But in the display settings the highest resolution shown is 1920 x 1080.
• A manual modus will not work as the default Intel Config app won't allow - and installing another version will fail ("please refer to your hardware vendor")
• According to document 4AA5-2657ENW the 15u would manage up to 4096x2060 on DP port - so why a max of  1920x1080?
• Btw the same document claims that using the Docking Station will only allow 1920x1200 on DP - but 4096x2160 on VGA - does it really make sense?

So - got today the UltraSlim Dock Station.

Plugged DP2HDMI cable from the dockstation to the same monitor - and look - that works - suddenly 2560x1080...!

This is fully contradicting the HP white paper mentioned below - but this works 🙂
