Beep codes indicate a basic hardware problem has occurred.  Depending on the BIOS make, the codes mean various things.  HERE is a guide for the various HP manufacturer's code.

It would help if the BIOS makers name was found. One of the BIOS makes indicates:

4, 5, 6, 7
Fatal errors related to the operation of critical motherboard components - such as the CPU.

Thanks - how can I find what BIOS my machine has since I cannot get it to start up?

The link yyou sent , very helpful - but when I googled my HP 500-123w , serial mxx3450j7f...no bios listed anywhere

From what I read in other places the explanation I gave in previous post seem to be valid.

Appreciate your help - Can we agree that if I could determine what BIOS i have - I could determine what the beeps mean?

And just as I thought - you can only find out your BIOS manuf. if you can access your computer.

Since mine does not boot up - I cannot find it.

Concludingly in my case - I have five BEEPS and have no way of determining what those beeps mean.

Thanks for the input, cheaper I guess to go buy a re-furb. now.

Happy 2017!

If the BIOS maker was determined it would be more definitive as to the problem.  It seems fairly certain there is a hardware problem, however.

EXACTLY.

In this case it is NOT "cheaper to keep her" since I am in the dark.
