I've replaced the pre-installed Seagate HDD with a Crucial SSD (Seagate to be utilised elsewhere).

I've attached the SSD to the 2.5" mounting bracket provided by Crucial, but was surprised to find there is no spare disc bay available of any size, unless I were to remove the DVD drive, which I don't want to do.

Does HP make, or does anyone know of, an adaptor that would affix the SSD to the HP chassis where the old HDD was?

Basically the HDD was just screwed to the metal frame with no actual disc bay mechanism at all.

Thanks

That is a shortcoming of your Crucial 2.5" to 3.5" bracket

(what you have won't work without those bottom threaded holes).

IF you are a DIY fabricator, you could remove the SSD, and drill / thread the bracket's missing holes !

Many 2.5' to 3.5" adapter brackets have bottom threads -- for this type of vertical mounting.

Your case used the bottom threads of 3.5" hard drives -- just need an adapter that mirrors that.

---

As far as UK suppliers for a bracket, you would have to check with your local retail computer shops.

I ordered mine from China (Hong Kong), and waited the 2 weeks.

You just need the correct adapter bracket for your Crucial SSD (2.5").
There are 3.5" and 5.25" adapter brackets from MANY suppliers (varying quality and costs).

IF you have a space in your case for mounting a 3.5" hard drive,
then allow me to recommend an HP/Foxconn part number, that I use in my HP case builds, updates, and retrofits.

ASSY 654540-001 Rev B

These adapters are sold by Eastern Asia (Hong Kong, mainland China) and USA resellers on eBay.
The Eastern Asian parts take about 2 to 3 weeks, via USPS. The US sellers are more expensive, for faster delivery.

I purchased 4 (brand new in plastic), a few months ago. I have already used 2 of them, and will use the other 2 in the near future.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Whilst there is plenty of actual space, there is no actual spare drive bay. The only actual drive bay in this unit is utilised by the DVD drive, which I use.

The only other option I can see is to somehow attach it to where the Seagate HDD was just screwed in, at the bottom right-hand side of the chassis.

See page 5 of this Upgrading and Servicing Guide

I'd be very grateful if you could recommend me a HP/Foxconn part number, then I can take a look at it and see if it is suitable for my needs.

It's just strange there isn't at least one spare in-built 3.5" drive bay, but I suppose SSDs weren't as popular when this PC's format was designed.

Thanks again.

Microcenter retail stores focus on DIY builds and case modification / adapters.

Plenty of space in that case for a 2.5" SSD.

2 logical spots to look at.

The traditional 3.5" hard drive mount location, which is a vertical mount.
You would use this spot, IF you are removing the 3.5" hard drive.
A 2.5" SSD to 3.5" bracket is proper adapter.

You also have a space, BELOW the 5.25" DVD drive, where the SSD could be mounted,
AND you could keep your current 3.5" hard drive.

That Low Profile 5.25" to 2.5" mount adapter is best found from the CASE MOD web sites, some listed below:

Thanks for the comprehensive reply and links.

As I said in my original posting the original Seagate HDD has already been removed, so ideally I would like to fit the SSD in the same place. It's currently just sitting there not fixed.

The Crucial SSD has already been attached to a Crucial 2.5" to 3.5" mounting bracket. As the old HDD was just screwed in at the back to attach to the HP Pavilion chassis, I need something that will, with SSD attached to it, allow me to fix to HP chassis at the back, there is no metal to screw in to at the sides.

The four screws on the backplate have all been used to attach to the SSD, I need something that has more holes in the backplate that would enable me to fix it like the Seagate SSD was.

Can you provide the link to the HP/Foxconn part you referred to in your original reply, please? I can't find it on the HP site though have found something on Amazon UK

Although there is space below the DVD drive, I can't quite remember if there are side fixings to attach what I have on the Crucial mounting bracket. The front and side covers of the case have been put back so I will, if need be, have to look at again another day.

Thanks.

Just an update .... I ordered  "Model No. ASSY 654540-001 REV B" from Amazon Market Place on 16 December. Despite being shipped from Hong Kong by trader DSLRKIT, it arrived on 27 December.

Now installed and working fine.

GREAT.
It's a Nice HP bracket, that works well for 2.5" SSD or hard drive mounting to 3.5" drive bays.
