Well,

To put such a enhanced security by design, without any possibility to go into the system, is quite absurd.  And more absurd is that the caution is expressed on the next page, after the chapter regarding cmos and bios ends.  It should have preceded the chapter instead.

I do not think there was a real problem with the motherboard though.  It is completly normal that, without a check, the bios does not recognize additional memory.  And the quickboot disable this checking - which takes a couple of seconds to complete - in order to be...well quick.

It is a nice option once the PC is configured according the user's wish, but it should not be set on by default.  The same way, the user should always be granted access to the system configuration.

As for the drimms, i know how tricky those things still are - and still wondering why after all those times.  I own and use PC since 1989, back then, everything was tricky. Still that it still poses some problem after thirty years of constant progress is beyond me.

Anyway, just to say that i bought the same pairs of drimms.  I had looked inside the box before bying them.

Anyway, the warranty is in play, so i just have to suffer the delay.

Not sure i am happy with my first HP experience though.

Anyway, thank for the help.

No. That is not normal. The old school BIOS required the administrator to change the amount of memory installed. That is not the case with modern PCs and notebooks.

The average user does not password the startup or BIOS. That makes part of this problem user induced.

Who and why has anyone would password the startup or BIOS?  I bought it like this in a HP dealer, since day 1 i have never been able to access the system setup.

At this point, i just hopte the new MB would be unlocked and functioning well.

Did you purchase it new?

If you purchased it used or new, you should have returned to the dealer with an issue like this and asked them how to resolve it. It is not normal.
