Hi @likebooks,
Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I see from the post that you are having an issue with crackling noise from your HP notebook. Don't worry as I have a few steps to help you get through this concern, Kudos to you for trying out the steps before reaching out to us.
I reviewed the post and see that you have already tried with different speakers and you could still hear crackling noise from the PC. This definitely looks to be a hardware issue with the PC. Before you could contact our HP phone support for available service related options. I would suggest you try these steps here:
Let's start with updating the BIOS, Chipset drivers and Audio drivers to the latest version using the Official HP website for drivers and downloads: Click here to find it.
* Updating your Notebook computer BIOS
* Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean
* Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat
* Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes
* Selecting power saves settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use
For more details: Click here
If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue, I would suggest this could be a hardware failure with the notebook. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.
Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Hi @likebooks,
Thank you for replying,
I appreciate your time and efforts,
I'm glad you pointed out that, as I might have overlooked it, however, I would suggest you follow the steps suggested in the previous post to update the Bios, Chipset drivers and audio drivers from our HP support website.
Next thing, I would also suggest here is to clean the fan and air vents and check for the power settings options from this support document (Please ignore the heading as these steps should be the same for your OS as well).
I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.
Eagerly waiting for your response!
I hope you have a good day ahead,
And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
Regards,
