Barcode Scanner

We have just purchased an HP PROMO Linear Barcode Scanner model QY405AT to scan library books. I was able to reprogram it for Codabar and eliminate the prefix and suffix letter characters so our database reads it.

However, I have not been able to configure two essential features:

1) Automatic entry into our database system. (After scanning the barcode, I have to press the enter key on the computer keyboard to complete the checkin/checkout procedure.) and,

2) The scanner does not automatically activate in the stand when a book is placed underneath for scannning. This necessitates removing the scanner from the stand, pointing it at the barcode and pulling the trigger.

Can anyone assist me in activating these two features?

The user manual might help with #1.  It also refers to the HP Support center.

The setup manual states (Pg5) that a continous stans scan mode is permitted.  #2 solved ?

Thank you wb2001, I scanned the stand mode, but then I messed something up by scanning another barcode on the same page inadvertantly.

Now:

-the green LED light on the top of the scanner constantly blinks

-the trigger needs to be held for 5 seconds before the red scanning light comes on--barcodes will then scan (beep sounds and green circle light appears) but the characters do not read into the computer

-Finally, after about a minute the scanner beeps and the green LED light on the top of the scanner starts to flash again. 

I've attempted to scan the "Restore USA Factory Configuration" barcode, but it does not seem to read it--no beep, the red scanning bar disappears immediately, NO green circle light comes from the scanner, and the green LRD light on the top of the scanner immediately comes on; after a few seconds there is a double beep followed shortly by a triple beep and the green light on top of the scanner begins to flash. 

Also, it no longer scans (no beep or green circle) the Codabar I originally programed. 

Can you help me reset the scanner to its factory defaults, so I can start over?

Because the reset barcode did not work, please contact support per the manual.
