I 'm trying to use the recovery discs (four in all). I put the first disc in and ran it on F11 and it ran, then it asked me to put in Supplemental Recovery and that ran fine. Next it asked for Disc 1 of System Recovery and that ran fine, last it asked me to put in Disc 2 of the System Recovery and all I got was a black screen with a blinking dash on the upper left corner of the screen and it didn't run. So now I'm stuck and Disc 2 and 3 have not run. Help! I really don't want to spend three hours on the phone again with HP. I have a HPE 470F, Windows 7

Hopefully we can get this worked out. Normally you do Not press F11 when you are using Recovery Discs. Not sure but you may have triggered a mis-step by using it.

Follow the instructions here closely to start over with a recovery attempt:

Black screen with a white blinking dash on the upper left corner usally means your computer can not find a operating system. Sense you failed to post your OS and model number it is difficult to help you. There can be several reasons that the recovery discs fail to load. Is there a reason that you didn't try the hidden recovery that's in your D drive?

Sorry, it's a HP Pavilion Elite 470f, Windows 7. I got the virus Cloud .7 And I thought I took care of it when I down loaded an anti-virus but then I had another problem with an error message " Microsoft Visual c++Runtime Library". When I looked on Google to find out how to fix it, nothing was working ( and I even uninstalled the ant-virus). And like a Novice that I am, I click in my start button to do a windows update and lost my Internet, Audio, Etc; So I called HP for the recovery discs and three hours later (and getting lost in translation) , they agreed to send it to me. And from the above, you know the rest. Please if you can, help me out on this.

Hi! If your PC was badly infected, the best way is to restore back to factory. You say you have the recovery discs, but they won't complete. The discs could be corrupted. Your DVD drive might not be able to read the discs. You could have defective hardware.

You did not answer my question! Have you tried to restore from the hidden partition on your HD? Please read this and reply back with details.

See if you can get here to test your hardware!

Thank you and you're right, I didn't answer you but yes I did try to restore (from the hidden option) it but I just can't seem to recall what the message said on why it couldn't run it, sorry. I did do a diagnostic test on "F9" and this is what it said: CPU Test - Passed, Hard Drive Connection - Passed, Boot Test - Passed, S.M.A.R.T. Test - Passed, Memory Test - Passed , press "R" to reboot, then it gave a message: CB Boot Couldn't Find Boot MGR, I think you're right and discs are corrupt. Thank you for your help Dokie, I' m going to read more on how to test your hardware, I'm just not used to using my IPad2 for everything and it's a little different. Again thank you!

Hi ! Good job! It appears that your hardware is ok. We have to find away to install your OS, as I believe it has been corrupted. I will see if Cheryl will help us. She may log on later tonight. I'm thinking you may have to order recocery discs from HP.

That will be great if Cheryl can help! HP just sent these discs to me and you're right, I just might have to call them again, I just hope it won't take three hours like the last time I was asking for recovery discs. Wish me luck.

Hi! Some day we will be a community here on the HP forum and members will join together to help HP members with PC issues. They will leave their ego's at the door and join together to help others like Cheryl does.

I do not mean to cause trouble here on the HP forum. It takes a village to make a forum. I have been in the Canadian Hunter to much tonight and so I will say good night Vietnam.

You are appreciated Cheryl. Thank you my friend! I'll see you on the flip flop.:smileywink:
