My HP Touchsmart 300 resets the date to 2001 every time it is switched on. I have Googled the problem and the most likely solution is to replace the CMOS battery. Which of the panels on the rear of the computer gives access to the battery and is it fairly straightfoeward to replace?
Thanks for your help.

The RTC battery is actuallly pretty easy to replace in this model. All it takes is patience and organization to perform the task.
You are correct. A flat CMOS battery will cause the BIOS to not retain the system date and time. It must be replaced with a new battery. You will need a CR2032 battery which can be purchased at a drugstore, Walmart or a electronics store.
The panels at the rear of the PC are quite straightforward to remove and replace. You will need to get to the motherboard to replace the RTC battery.
See the video at the following document. See minute 5:20 where you can see the RTC battery.

Thanks for the swift reply. The full model is 300-1125uk
I have read the post that you provided a link to, and I may well end up taking to a professional! Just thought I'd ask if it was relatively simple.
Many thanks.

Thank you,

Not difficult at all. That was why I posted it. I was a bit surprised by your initial response, but am pleased that you had the confidence to give it a go after thinking about it. You saved youself some cash.
