Can I add a second monitor to a TouchSmart 520-1070?  Can it be done through a USB port with a USB to DVI converter?

To connect your HP TouchSmart 520-1070 desktop computer to a second monitor or a TV, you will need to purchase a USB-to-video adapter. I recommend the eVGA UV Plus+ 19 USB-to-Video Adapter, however many of these other USB-to-video adapters should also work.

FYI... with a touch screen, you can only "clone" the desktop... trying to "extend" the desktop may cause problems using the computer.

Thank you Frank,  is there a way to turn off the "touch" feature and extend the monitor?

Please read through the posts in this thread. It includes instructions for turning off / disabling the touch feature of a touchscreen PC. With the touch screen disabled and a mouse connected, I imagine you should be able to "extend" the desktop across both monitors now that you aren't constrained by the touch limitations.

Dave! PLEASE.. can you tell me if the extended display worked when you turned off the touch screen function? I want to buy the HP TouchSmart 520 soon but if it cannot support extended monitors I do not plan on buying it.

I've been running a USB display adapter on my TouchSmart 300 for the last year. Works great! I have my TV connected via HDMI through the adapter and a second monitor connected via VGA through the same adapter (obviously not at the same time!) Adapter cost less than $50 on fleapay!

I have a TouchSmart 520-1020A. I would like to use this as a monitor for my other PC. I assume, there should be ways to do it. Can anyone please help me with this?

Thank you.

@ S_Ali

Sorry, but you can't use your HP TouchSmart 520-1020a Desktop Computer as a monitor. Some other models of the TouchSmart 520 series such as the HP TouchSmart 520-1070 Desktop Computer came with a HMDI input and monitor control buttons on the right side panel under the CD/DVD drive as shown below;

(1) - Optical disc drive     (2) - Monitor controls     (3) - HDMI In port

With these other models, it may be possible to use the TouchSmart computer as a monitor as the input is designed to allow HDMI game consoles and video players to use the computer as a display. Assuming the HDMI output of a game console, a video player, and a computer are roughly the same... it should work.

Your issue is the lack of the "Scalar" input panel, cabling, circuitry, and needed software on your computer. If you were to determine what components you need to purchase and install them, it may be possible to use your computer as a monitor. This will be an expensive modification and still may not work as expected. I wouldn't recommend going this route.

Please send KUDOs

Thank you Frank. I guess I have to think about some other way to use that PC.
