Hello mojados79,

Have you resolved your problem already?

There isn't any BIOS update for your model and the CPU you installed should be compatible.

Could you tell me if you still have this problem? If yes, can you provide the exact descritpion of the CPU box you installed?  Any additional details for me to investigate will be good to have.

Thanks,

Yes, I am still having the same problem. I can give you the website where I bought the processor from.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103942

This is the exact processor I bought. I would hate to return the processor. I just hope it is a software issue and not a hardware.

Anything would help. Thank You

Update:
I replaced the 1TB disk drive, from the Touch Smart, with a 512GB SSD. I wanted, and got, better performance. I have plenty of networked storage so the smaller size was not an issue. Installation was a snap and the drive has function perfectly since installation.

Hello again,

How did the problem with the CPU error message ended?

Have you finally returned the CPU?

THanks,

I'm doing the same set of upgrades--A8-3850, ssd, etc. & adding W8 Pro, but wanted to ask (what may be a dumb Q): after upgrading to W8, will I be able to increase the amount of ram beyond the 8gb?  I know depending on what OS you're using you can go beyond, but will it be a motherboard holding me back?  Just trying to get the best performance out of what's already a nice machine.  Thanks for any help!

Hello,

You have to check your motherboard specifications and what memory upgrade it supports.

Can you please tell me model or you can check at hp.com for the product specs and you can see what you can do regarding memory upgrade.

THanks,

This is not my issue. I simply replied with a solution so I do not know how I ended up as an owner.

Hello Mojados,

About your problem with the CPU, what is the status of this problem? Did you manage to install the CPU or did you replace it with one with a lower TDP?

Could you please let me know the outcome of your situation?

Thank you,

Hello SomeIOguh,

What I ended up doing was installing the next CPU down the list. It is a A8-3800. When I did this, everything worked fine.

No issues to date and I am happy with the upgrade. Thank you for trying to work on the situation. I think the problem was the power issue.  The A8-3800 has a lower power rating. I thinks its 95w. So I don't know what happened with my motherboard. Thank you all for the help.

Hello,

The CPU you installed the TDP is 65W, it should not be 95W so that probably explains everything.

In my opinion, i think the unit should be able only to support the 65W TDP of the CPU's installed, therefore the one you tried before the 100W, would not work...

Gald to know you worked out the situation.

In case you need anything else, let us know.

Thanks,
