I have an HP Pavillion a1747c Desktop and I need to update the BIOS for virtualization technology. However the BIOS update only supports Windows Vista, and I have Windows 7. Can I still update it in any way?

Yes, you may be able to extract the actual BIOS file from the compressed installer package and use an appropriate flash routine to flash the BIOS under another operating system but you do so at your own risk. Any damage to your computer using this process is at your own risk and you take all responsibility for this.

Hi,

Yes you can update your BIOS with the one listed on the HP website.  Usually updates for newer OS are not posted unless they are truly unique.  The most recent BIOS update seems to be the one offered with Vista.

Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion a1747c Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit installed from the factory. HP only supports Windows Vista on this computer and BIOS update v5.07 will only install on the Vista OS. Attempting to install this update will result in the installer kicking out an error stating your "system doesn't meet minimum requirements." To install this update you will need to disconnect your Windows 7 hard drive and install a temporary hard drive in the computer, then install Windows Vista using your HP Recovery Discs or a Windows install disc. After Vista is installed, you can run the update to get the BIOS to v5.07 with support for AMD Virtualization Technology. Next, remove the temp hard drive and reconnect your Windows 7 hard drive.

Can't I just extract the installer and use winflash to flash my BIOS to 5.07?
