Thank you for your reply.  If I click on the power button, then "restart," it reboots to the desktop, no problem.  It's just an annoying extra step I have to take to get to the desktop and applications.  The hard drive works fine once I can get to the desktop screen.  It's only at initial turn-on that it goes to the abbreviated screen and I have to restart.  I believe it is probably with one of the connected devices, printer, etc., and will keep troubleshooting.

Can you share the exact message that comes up, or click a pic and attach here.

If its HDD failure id then i am suspecting the hdd to go bad soon and would suggest a data backup, nevertheless without seeing the message I will not be able to suggest what needs to be done.
