Hello. I have a HP/Compaq Elite 8100 SFF PC with 4 GBs of RAM and I want to upgrade to 16 GBs of RAM, which I know it can support.  I have already bought three different kits from MemoryC.com and none of them worked.  The PC would boot as far as the 'Starting Windows' message and then hang.  Can someone please tell me what RAM kit to buy?

Here is a list of the kits I've already tried, but which have not worked:

http://www.memoryc.com/memory/IN3T8GEZJIX.html
http://www.memoryc.com/computermemory/ddr3ram/16gbgskill1333mhzpc310600dualchannelkit2x8gb.html
http://www.memoryc.com/computer-memory/ddr3/8gb-geil-green-series-ddr3-1333mhz-pc3-10660-cl9-dual-ki...

If it helps, the part number of the motherboard is 531991-001.

If you think some of the above kits should have worked, is there any other reason why they didn't?  Something to do with the BiOS maybe?  The PC currently has 4 GBs of RAM (2 x 2 GB modules) and works fine, but I'm using this PC for music, so I want to install the full 16 GBs.  I am using Windows 7 64-bit, by the way.

Thanks,
Paul

Hi Walt43,

The memory configuration on this model should be a s mentioned below

Memory Configurations -

Maximum Memory Supports up to 16 GB of DDR3 SDRAM using DIMM modules. Slot 1 is black and must always be populated. Not all memory configurations possible are represented below. NOTE: For systems configured with more than 3 GB of memory and a 32-bit operating system, all memory may not be available due to system resource requirements. Addressing memory above 4 GB requires a 64-bit operating system.

I Have attached the configuration in which it needs to be used .

And the Product numbers that can be used are as follows

System Memory SFF CMT Part Number
1 GB DIMM AT023AA
2 GB DIMM AT024AA
4 GB DIMM VH638AA

The above  i s the product numbers that you can use to order memory in order to match your requirement that is compatible with this model .

Here is the link you can refer to for the quickspecs on the unit .

Hi guys,

Many thanks for your replies.  Since I posted that query back in February, I contacted the PC's reseller and they directed me to the correct RAM, which believe it or not, contradicts HP's own documentation.

This is the RAM that works so I hope this might help anyone else who encounters this issue:

I do appreciate you both taking the time to provide assistance, though.

Cheers.
