HP DO NOT OFFERS HIGHT POWER PSU FOR HP 8200 CMT SERIES .

THERE IS'T ALSO ANY  POSSIBILITY TO POWER MOBO WITH power the ATX PSU

If you search the forum for "8100 elite psu" you will not find any success stories with replacing the psu in the HP 8100 or 8200 series with a retail ATX power supply.  HP uses a propriety psu in these models.

How do you plan on power sequencing the PC?  Do you think that the 4 pin molex connection going from the main PSU to this aux. psu will do the sequencing?

Whoa! 🙂

I was congratulating him on his passing on what I read to be an *additional* psu that sat in a 5.25 bay and powered pcie (the power supply needed for a graphics card gpu).

Keeping the 8100 psu for the computer with an additional psu in therack would be, in my opinion, a great way to add a source for his graphics card.

I may have misunderstood him in which case I still appreciate his attempt at passing on info. This is a hobby and I am here with the others to help and encourage.

Not been able to test this at home to be honest. As I see it the additional psu will simply power the 6 pin sockets needed on the graphics card. Ican see where you are coming from and do not have a definite answer to be honest. As no phases are involved and simply dc voltages (both would have a common earth) through the casing. Cannot see where a problem might be, not a pd (potential difference) that I can be 100% sure about without having that computer here to test myself. 

I personally cannot see it harming, but in all fairness it is not my place to say. If I had that rig here would try it to be honest, after making sure both psus were commonly and securely earthed to case *and* the mains lead had an earth wire for both psus. 

Hope this throws less mud into a seemingly muddy pond 🙂

My understanding is that the auxillary PSU won't turn on until the main PSU is powered since it attaches to the main PSU.  Not sure I know exactly what you mean by Power Sequencing, but given this info do you think it will work?   Do you think there is a chance of permantly ruining the motherboard or GPU?   

I am really interested in trying this, as it would solve this problem of providing adequate power to addin GPU's for a lot of people, and of course I will share the results here if/when I try.

If the power sequencing is done early enough, then the bios is going to get a chance at looking for powered up PCI-E cards. If the power sequencing is done late then the bios might not see the PCI-E cards. A timing issue might come into play. If the voltage on the 4 pin molex connector is what tells the auxillary PSU to power up then it's a little behind in the power sequencing process. The reviews at newegg.com look promising but none of the posters are using the HP Elite 8xxx series PC.

Know what the return policy is before you buy.

P.S.  What would I do?  I would give it a try.

I am currently using this power supply http://www.computervalley.ca/503296-b21/884420350187/hp-ac-power-supply-460w-ac-power-supply for my PC.Though this power-supply gives me good support but i am little bit confuse with this cause i used another power-supply(StarTech-ATX2POWER530)  for my PC unfortunately it failed to provides me a good support.I bought this power supply casue it has 460 Watt output Power and it looks so pretty that's why i choose this one.

I have emailed the manufacturer of the FSP Booster X5 add in power supply in regards to the power phasing, including your questions.   As soon as I hear back I will update this thread.   And if I get the news that I am hoping for, I will be buying one ASAP and update the thread again.   Hopefully it will work, this would be a very simply solution for a lot of people in the same situation!

@DaveG: I received a response from FSP regarding the power phasing, below you should see an image from their spec .pdf.  Does this provide any insight as to it cooperating with the motherboard in the HP 8100 Elite?
