Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)
PC became incredibly slow, unable to open most programs without freezing.

Ran a DPS Self Test, which quickly returned:

"Completion Code 7. Test Failed. Drive Replacement Recommended."

Is this test conclusive? Should I be shopping for a new HDD?

Hello ShireDude,

That indicates that the Hard Disk Drive has failed or going to fail shortly and that requires a replacement to resolve the issue .

HP will provide a replacement Hard Disk Drive if the PC warranty is Active, If not you need buy a SATA Hard Disk Drive from a retail shop nearby

Please Contact HP if your PC is under warranty, HP would replace the Hard Disk Drive and provide you a Recovery media to restore factory operating system after replacement (if you've not yet created Recovery Discs/USB Media)

You can Check your warranty Here to verify the status

Thsi document will help you understand in detail : http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/bph05701
