HP 23xi Monitor HDMI

My cousin's friend recently gave us an HP 23xi Monitor with software installed. We are attempting to use it as a tv monitor through the HDMI cable however we keep receiving Input Signal Error and to change the resolution. I found a quick "Re-Boot" solution online and did that however it still isn't working and we are receiving the same error.

 

Is it even possible to use this monitor for this application and if so, how the heck can I fix it? It also goes into sleep mode after about 30 seconds - a tad annoying.
