Ok some bad(ish) news. I made an offer on the cable and didn't get a reply. So I went to just buy it and it said it was out of stock. My guess is that people saw it on this thread and ordered it straight away. I contacted the seller and he said he could get more from his supplier after Chinese New Year, meaning I can order one on 15th February at the earliest. Nobody else seems to sell them on eBay but I have seen them online in other places (Alibaba or Ali Express or whatever it's called, and some other company that does custom PC cables and parts, just Google for 24pin ATX to 6pin HP should help).
So I don't have one at the moment and I don't have one on order either 😞
I will keep looking and maybe order one unless someone else wants to try? Delivery from China to the UK seems to take quite a long time (weeks usually).

My email to one particular supplier:
Hello,
I am interested in the following product:
(Omitted)
I would like to know whether this will work with an HP 8000 Elite workstation (I am hoping this cable will allow me to install an aftermarket PSU into this system, which looks to be very similar to the Z220/Z230 in terms of PSU setup). If not, can you supply a cable that would do the job?
Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.
And their reply back to me:

That's what we're trying to find out. I'm pretty sure that they are the same and that it will work, but it would appear there are a couple of wires missing from the 6 pin linear connector (not the one that looks like a PCI-E connector) which are for the system fans, I believe. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I think one is white and the other is white/red.

In case I misunderstood your question, what we're hoping for is that any 24 pin ATX PSU can be used in an HP workstation such as the 8000 Elite which for some reason was built with a strange PSU setup from HP. I think if it works in the Z220 etc then it will work in the 8000 also but we're not 100% sure at the moment. Stay tuned I guess.

Ok all, sorry if it seems like I'm hijacking this thread a little but hopefully some of you will find it helpful.
I have just purchased the cable from these guys, who are the company who I was speaking to via email in my previous post:
At the moment the cable is £10.34 ($14.99) with free worldwide shipping.
Let us know if you order one up.

I think you're right XargXar. I'm just waiting for delivery now. I've no idea how long it will take to arrive but I've had notification that it's been shipped. When it turns up I will provide photographs etc.
