STILL waiting for the cable from China. Maybe somebody's swimming here with it?

It has finally arrived in the post this afternoon. Pictures to follow...

Ok , sorry for the big batch of pictures but I wanted to show all of the connectors.

I've already noticed a difference between the connectors, as I'll try to show here. The white connector is the HP one, the cream one is on the new cable. We already knew the 2 white wires were going to be absent but the new cable has an additional wire at the other end as well, on a pin which is not wired at all on the HP cable:

The thin black, red, yellow and green wires on the 6 pin white/cream connector all totally bypass the voltage converter (the small PCB that's heat-shrunk).

My pictures were here but they seem to have disappeared. I don't know why. I'll try again tomorrow.

Edit - Actually, I see they are awaiting approval.

Seems legit to me. I would recommend to double check (as always) with a multimeter but all the wires seem to be in the right place. I have no idea why they went with those wire colors for P2 (a red wire for ground), but it should work. You will still get the F1 Psu Fan not found error though, but by now everybody knows how to get around that.

Hi XargXar,

Let's consider this image:

9.jpg

The original HP connector (top, white) has 5 wires and an unused pin next to the black.

The adaptor cable (cream, bottom) has only 4 wires. The 2 white fan wires are missing but there's an extra wire (black) in P1 that does not appear on the original HP cable. Any ideas what that is?

Cheers

As far as I can tell it's just another ground. There's only one thin black wire that's attaching the P2 connector to the 24 pin, and on the 24 pin side it's ground. So it should be fine.
