Hi all,

can we use easy tools to upgrade our thin client's Os versions. I did the following steps and

1. Downloaded new WES2009 image  for t5740 and customized it to our needs

2. I captured the thinclinet (t5740, wes 2009) image with HP EASY TOOLS to ftp server - successful (2gb image file)

3. Deployed to another thinclient (t5740, wes 2009+has only HPDM, EASY TOOLS INSTALLED) with hp easy tools - successfull

4. Now, tried to install on thinclients (t5740, wes 2003, NO HPDM AGENT & EASY TOOLS) & t5740 wes 2003 - FAILED

here is the log file...

Sending the image file <filename.img>

         Connection refused

I couldn't any thing about ther service in the manual. Can any one tell me which service (hpdm agent or easy tools) should remote thinclients run so that we can deploy image using HP EASY TOOLS.

Could someone help me please as I must upgrade all of our thinclients from WES 2003 to WES2009

Thanks in advance

Hi,

If you want to deploy an image using HP Easy Tools, the target thin clients must also have HP Easy Tools installed. If you're deploying an image using HPDM then the target thin clients must also have HP DM installed.

You can get HP Easy Tools from here:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12...

By the way have you tried HP ThinState? It uses USB disk to image your thin clients.

thanks for your reply.

we are using thinstate right now in our envt. I need to automate this process using HPDM OR easy tools (to some extent).

All our thin clients have Windows XPe std. 2003 as its OS. So its not possible to upgrade them to WES2009 with easy tools as the software is not available for XPe std. 2009.

Any suggestion??

Does your XPe thin clients have HPDM installed? Or does it have altiris installed? If you at least have either one of these you can deploy your captured image to those thin clients over the network.

Are your thin clients on the domain?

HP Recommended

yes, they have HPDM agent 4.0.3 (some haveneoware NDM 3.7 ), also altiris 6.5.233. OS version: XPe sp2 5.1.2600.

All of them are in the domain.

First option:

If the client has altiris, you can download and install the altiris server on your server. The altiris version needs to be the same as the altiris client and please make sure there is no multiple altiris server in your network.

Second option:

If you'd like to use HPDM, you can install HPDM server and then deploy the image to target clients in the subnet.

Third option:

Have HP Easy Tools on a network share then use group policy to copy and install this on the thin client (you can use the script to check the registry value first to make sure that only HP Thin client is affected).

1st option: can i use trail version of altiris 6.5 to upgrade my old thinclients(t5630) and later migrate to HPDM 4.4.3  as t5630 has NDM 3.7.x

2nd option: Most liked !! Currently using for managing 400 t5740 & t5630w

3rd option: can't use Easy tools as there is a compatibility issue with XPe os which is pre requirement to deploy using Easy tools.

Any idea to handle  t5630 with NDM 3.7 x

I do agree that using HPDM seems to be your best bet. I would definitely recommend you upgrade the HPDM agent on those devices first to version 4.4.3.

Have you tried to send a task to update the agent? If it doesn't work I think the easiest way to do is to use group policy and logon script to install the new DM Agent on those devices.

I think you can use altiris to upgrade your HPDM version to 4.4.3. But I don't think you would be able to deploy the image captured from t5740 to t5630. You might get HW incompatibility issues at best and worst you'll get BSOD. I highly recommend you customize the WES 2009 on your t5630 first.

thanks for your reply IR1.

We re Customizing and capturing seperate images for each TC model. I'll get back to you on "Updating 3.7 Agents" ..
