Hi,

Operating Systen - Windows 7 64bit

I have a Lenovo Y460p laptop. It has a HDMI out on the video card. I also have an HP Elite L2201x with a DisplayPort in. I bought a Startech.com HDMI2DP which is supposed to actively convert the HDMI to DisplayPort. When I plug up both to the converter, the monitor just blinks orange. The monitor has been installed using the CD. The converter has been hooked up correctly. I don't know what the problem is. Can anothing help?

Have you tried using the "Fn + F3" key combination as shown in the Lenovo Y460P/Y560p User Guide??? Chapter 2, Learning the Basics, Page 22.

I had tried that as well as going into my display settings and changing the monitor settings, e.g, making it extend the desktop or just having one monitor mirror the other.

Were you able to get it to work? I am having the same issue and getting very frustrated with this stupid monitor. By far the crappiest tech item I have purchased!

gsuren,

Here are the specs for your HP Elite L2201x 21.5-inch LED Backlit LCD Monitor. According to the specs, your HP L2201x monitor has a single DisplayPort input and no other video connections. You must connect the monitor to a computer with native DisplayPort output or use an "ACTIVE HDMI-to-DisplayPort CONVERTER".

@ off1c3r, mikasa, bcody79, and others with the same DVI-D or HDMI to DisplayPort issue.

The problem isn't with the monitor... it is with the way you are trying to connect your computer to the monitor. The monitor has a DVI-D input and a DisplayPort input. If your computer doesn't have native DisplayPort output, you can't use the monitor's DisplayPort input without an expensive active converter.

But you say you purchased a DVI-D or HDMI to DisplayPort adapter cable??? Wrong, unless it is an active converter there is no way to go from DVI-D or HDMI at your computer to a DisplayPort monitor. The cables you have purchased are designed to go from a computer's DisplayPort output to a monitor's DVI-D or HDMI input. This is facilitated by the graphics adapter sensing an active DVI-D or HDMI connection (via adapter cable) on the DisplayPort output and switching the signaling to DVI-D or HDMI.

Please read DisplayPort.org/FAQs for more information on the subject. You can also check out wiki/DisplayPort for more information as well. From DisplayPort.org;

Q: I just purchased a monitor that only has a DisplayPort connection. How can I hook this up to my computer that only has VGA, DVI or HDMI?

A: There is not a cost effective way to do this. The adaptors that are available only work from a DP computer to a VGA, DVI or HDMI monitor and not the other way around. If you have a desktop you can purchase a graphics card with DisplayPort. Our best advice: Before you purchase a DP only monitor make sure you have DP on your computer.

Something like this?
http://eu.startech.com/AV/Displayport-Converters/DisplayPort-to-HDMI-Active-Video-and-Audio-Adapter-...

They say:
...which enables you to connect .... that's output from a DisplayPort-equipped desktop or laptop computer to an HDMI monitor...

This ALWAYS mean you SOURCE has to be DP, the MONITOR hdmi.
That's NOT in your case.

If you have this one:
http://eu.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/HDMI-or-DVI-to-DisplayPort-Active-Converter~HDMI2DP

You should ask Startech why it doesn't work ...

I too have fallen victim to purchacing this monitor without understanding DVI/HMDI will not drive it.  Finding an 'active' converter online is impossible because simple sorce Dp to HDMI display changers are very prolific, and all descriptions are vague and confusing.  I am out of luck just getting a new video card with a Dp since the machine has no PCIe slots.  (older ASUS pp-dlw server) and there are no AGP card w/Dp ports.  So...

I am forced to look for an "active HDMI-to-DisplayPort converter," at least to get an idea of it's cost.  I am NOT asking for a specific product recomendation mind you.
