Envy Recline 27/EliteBook 840
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello.

The issue I am expriencing is the following:

I have a EliteBook 840 G1, and a Envy Recline 27 All-in-One.

The one feature why I bough the Envy is that it has an HDMI port that works as an input for an external HDMI source and once an external source is connected, the Envy can be used as second display. This is exactly what I am trying to do.

Now the problem is that when I connect my EliteBook through DisplayPort to HDMI or VGA to HDMI through the appropriate cables, the notebook detects the All-in-One HDMI Display, but the Envy comes up with an error "No Video Source".

The interesting fact is that if I use the same cables on the EliteBook and connect them to the HDMI port of my HDMI TV or my ViewSonic Display -0 everything works fine.

Also, when I connect my HP Split X2 from HDMI to my Envy HDMI - the Split X2 detects the display and the display of the Envy works fine.

So in short:

a) Envy as Display works with HDMI source to HDMI Envy Input;

b) EliteBook works from EliteBook DisplayPort to TV HDMI Input;

c) EliteBook works from EliteBook DisplayPort to ViewSonic Monitor HDMI Input;

d) Envy does NOT work from EliteBook DisplayPort to HDMI Envy Input, but EliteBook detects the Envy as a TV;

e) Envy does NOT work from EliteBook VGA Port to HDMI Envy Input, but EliteBook detects the Envy as a TV;

I am confused and need advice how to solve this.

Running Windows 10 Pro on the Envy and Windows 8.1 Pro on the EliteBook.

Hi,

Just ignore the Envy. Have you tried to use TWO normal MONITORS, what is the outcome ? You may need a dock which supports 2 external monitors. In short, your HP EliteBook 840 G1 may not support 2 monitors. By the way, what is your HP EliteBook 840 G1  ? HP EliteBook 840 G1 is a series of many models/products.

Regards.

Hello,

the EliteBook definately supports two monitirs, otherwise my other test scenarios wouldn't work.

That is not a solution for sure.

Hi There!

I have exactly the same question!

I have an HP Elitebook from work, and it sits on a platform which only has dvi or vga output. I have the HP Envy Recline at hme and it only has hdmi input.

I tried all type of cables and adapters,they work fine with my another laptop, but not working at all with HP Elitebook. Now once the dvi to hdmi cable is used, the Elitebook just keep flashing... and Envy Recline says there is no videa signal.

I wonder if anyone here has resolved that?

Cheers!
