HP EliteDesk 800 G1 USDT

I'm trying to find out some info on this and I couldn't find anything.

I'm pretty sensitive to noise. How noisy is the fan on this unit from a distance of 1-2 feet? Can you hear it?

I had the old Dell Optiplex USFF 790 series (also ultra small), and I the fan on that was very quiet. I liked it. Does anyone know how the EliteDesk 800 G1 USDT compares to the Dell in terms of noise?

If any of you happen to have one running and don't mind making a recording with your phone then I'd be very grateful (you could even post it on youtube for others to benefit too).

I've set up a few G2s and they're not even noticeable.

I think you are talking about the G2 Mini, whereas I was asking abou tthe G1 USDT. They are quite different (and different fans). I found info on the fan used in G1 and also th eone used in my old Dell 790 USFF. They are comparable in terms of max airflow and max noise (max is very loud). I'm interested in idle speeds which is down to how the BIOS was configured, and how conservative it is when ramping up at load - I wouldn't want it to ramp up too quickly.

Actually, I could use some info on the G2 as well. Did you happen to setup a G2 mini (the ultra small one) with an Intel 6th gen CPU? Which G2 was it that you said was not noticeable?

Oh, you are correct,  My apologies.  Yes, the EliteDesk 800 Mini G2 was what I am referring to.  It's got the latest Intel chip and an SSD so the only component that even has a chance of making noise is the system fan and it's not noticeable (at least to me).  http://store.hp.com/us/en/mdp/business-solutions/elitedesk-800-mini

That's encouraging to hear, many thanks. I'm thinking to bite the bullet so I have one more question: when you say it's not noticeable, is the room quiet? Obviously, if the room has noticeable background noise then it will bury the fan noise ... the room I intend to use it pretty quiet and I need it that way.

The room(s) were fairly quiet so it should be fine.

Then I'm sold. I just found a great deal for a G2 mini with 8GB ram and 128GB ssd.

I just received my EliteDesk 800 G2 Mini ... and it's truly very quiet.  Much, much quieter than my old Optiplex 790 USFF. Very happy with the purchase.

The main reason I wanted the G1 USDT instead of the G2 Mini was the DVD/Bluray drive. But I got an external USB3 drive for the Mini and it's all sorted (I can also use it elswhere if I wish).

Also, in contrast with the G2 Mini specs, it actually has two (not one) M.2 expansion slots on the motehrboard, whichi s pretty cool as I can add both a wifi card and an NVMe drive. Pretty versatile little nugget.

Sweet, glad it worked out!  I really like these small units.
