Hi I accidentally flashed v5.29 to my AM2+ DDR2 M2N78-LA motherboard.
I was trying to fix the continuous BSOD's of 0x0000003E, and 0x00000050 etc etc
Running fresh Opteron 1389 2.9Ghz Quad, and 16GB DDR2-800, GTX 460 Gelid Icy Vision.
I just want to flash to v5.22 or are there other versions you can link me?
What's the process of preparing the USB Drive with the BIOS file for Recovery?
THANKS

Hi,
Please post the HP product number for your PC. How to Find the HP Model Number and the HP Product Number or let HP automatically find your PC model number and HP network attached printers. This will allow others to review your issue, make suggestions and review your responses. This is usually the best way to get assistance.
How did you accidently flash 5.29 to your PC?

HP Pavilion Elite m9517c
M2N78-LA VIOLET-GL8E
Force flash, since the update Required Vista, I didn't know that it was the incorrect bios. Forced flashed via cmd.
Now the board boots, no PS2 Keyboard lights, no Video.
I hear you rename VLE5.22 (v5.22 What was on it originally) to AMIBOOT.ROM or HPBIOS.ROM...
All I have is a flash drive, no floppy on hand. They say use floppy with AMIBOOT.ROM, boot System CTRL+HOME and it will fix it.
So far no luck with the only 8GB flash drive I have, formatted to FAT32 with the VLE5.22 file renamed twice HPBIOS.ROM and AMIBOOT.ROM... Both files for redundancy... No Go...
Any help on USB BIOS Recovery without VIDEO?

Hi,
BIOS version 5.22 can be downloaded at this link.
You might want to try flashing via CD.
This guide may be helpful: http://www.bios-mods.com/bios-update/
Good luck.:smileyhappy:

Thanks but it isn't a solution, that link entails a proper working system with video, flashing via flash drive in ms-dos...
My M2N78-LA's onboard sata is non-functional so I use a PCIe x1 SATA Adapter.
I have no video, no nothing...
Can the M2N78-LA Only be recovered by an old fashioned Floppy Drive?
Thanks

Hi,
You need to build the CD on another system and then insert the CD and power on. If you are lucky, it works and flashes the BIOS such as this example.
BTW -- The video is working on your PC based on the information that you posted.

Not sure about onboard geforce 9100, I use x16 pcie gtx 460...
Also the southbridge has failed on this board, so I use a PCIe x1 sata adapter for I/O...
Apparently this is the procedure unless it uses the "new" AMI 8 Core bios...? Probably not
So this appears to be the only option...
I found a floppy drive, and cable and the drive works on my main pc but I can't find a working floppy disk yet...
For AMI BIOS
Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a floppy disk. e.g. Rename A569MS23.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM
Insert this floppy disk in the floppy drive. Turn On the system and press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. It will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the BIOS from the A drive.
When 4 beeps are heard you may remove the floppy disk and restart the computer.

Not a solution.

You do realize the CD option only works if the board is newer AMI BIOS AM3 DDR3 Spec, right?
The CD option will not work if the southbridge has failed, rendering the onboard sata ports inoperable.
The M2N78-LA Violet-GL8E does not have an IDE connector either so IDE CD Option will not work.
As far as I understand the board cannot recover via the PCIe x1 bus SATA host adapter.
I suppose I'll give it a shot though! I cannot find a working floppy disk.
If I can find a working floppy disk, which is few and far between I can revive the board...
