The beeping started on Day 2 of owning the PC. I returned it to Currys PC World and they 'repaired' it by reinstalling the OS and updating hte BIOS (I don't know which BIOS - I assume the MB rather than the GPU). The beeking was gone when I got it back but again on the 2nd day it was back...
Online I found that the beep sequence of 3:3 meant "The embedded controller has timed out waiting for BIOS to return from graphics initialization."
When I boot the machine and play any video full screen, the display blacks out after a few seconds and I have to quit the application to recover.
What can I do?

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP Omen Desktop PC - 870-099na and it produces a beeping noise. There are 3 long and 3 short beeps. Also, when you boot the machine and play any video full screen, the display blacks out after a few seconds and you have to quit the application to recover.
you have right checked and found that the beep sequence of 3:3 meant "The embedded controller has timed out waiting for BIOS to return from graphics initialization." I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I would like to know if any changes (hardware or software) took place on the PC after which this issue may have started. Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Power off the PC.
- Disconnect all cables (including the power cable) from the PC.
- Press and hold the PCs power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect only the keyboard, mouse, monitor and power cable to the PC.
- Power it ON.
I checked the hardware specifications and found that this PC has an integrated and also a non-integrated graphics card which are as follows:
- Integrated Intel HD Graphics (Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.)
- AMD Radeon R9 380 graphics card.
As per the HP document: http://hp.care/2jRFHEI, it states the following:
-
Reseat card if able. (Refer to user guide)
-
Test a known good card if able.
-
Replace affected component.
If the issue persists then I suggest you to contact HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for the PC.
Hope this information helps. Feel free to reply. Cheers! 🙂
