Hello,

I have an HP Pro desktop computer that was working fine, recently it started not booting to windows. The HP splash screen come up after I get the black screen "Windows Error Recovery, Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause".
I tried starting windows normally, safemode, running all diagnostics, and launching the repair and none of that worked. I also have tried re-imaging the machine at least 3 times and I still get the message and will not boot to windows. I have taken out the memory, processor, cd drive, and swap the hard drive with another working HP desktop and I still get the message and it still won't boot to windows. I have worked on about 50 of these and this is the first time I ran into this issue.

Can anyone help me with this issue?

Thanks.

Specs:
HP Pro 3500 Series
Processor: Intel i5-3470 CPU 3.2GHz
Memory: 4GB
Hard Drive: Toshiba 500GB
CD-ROM: HP
OS: Windows 7

Also, I can get to the bios just fine.

TheOldMan thank you for all your help. I had figured it out, for some reason the bios was changed. I set everything to the defaults and now I'm able to boot to windows without any error messages or problems.

There is a good possiblity that the hard drive has failed or the controller has.  When in the BIOS, does the hard drive show?

Yes the hard drive does show in the bios. I had also put the hard drive in another hp computer and it worked fine.

Whenever I am confronted with wierd things, I try a Linux Live CD ( Ubuntu or Knoppix works ) to see if the hardware can support an OS.  I suggest making one of those or an Ultimate Boot CD.  Even run the hard drive and maybe the boot manager tools.
