Hello there:

We have a few HP Thin Clients 5550 and 5710 running Windows 7 embedded.  The old admin is gone, and nobody knows the administrator passwords.  Can't change any local settings on the thin clients w/o the admin password.

How can we reset the administrator password?

Or,

how can we reset the units to factory?

Thank you.

The current version of HP Device Manager provides task templates for password change (you can specify the account).

Neither the t5550 nor t5710 are licensed for WES7 - the t5550 is a WinCE device and the t5710 is an XPe device.  Is it possible these machines are auto-launching a remote session (RDP, ICA, etc) and you're seeing Windows 7?

If it's really the local configuration you're looking to change, you can create a bootable USB key to reimage these devices.

The XPe image for the t5710 can be found here:  http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=12...

The WinCE image for the t5550 can be found here:

Sorry, it's a t5570e unit and it does appear to be Windows 7 Embedded.

Thank you.
