I have a HP XW8600 workstation. There are 5 beeps with 5 blinks in the LED whenever I try to boot it in vain.

  1. I removed all the RAMs from the slots and still it gives same type of beeps with blinks.
  2. I put the RAMs back in correct slots and I got same result.
  3. I removed the battery from the motherboard and put it back and then tried to boot the machine but it still gives the same type of beeps and blinks.
  4. I removed the connections with the hard disks and put them back and tried to boot it with the same result.

I am eagerly waiting if anyone can turn up with any solution. Please help me as soon as possible. It's really important to me.

I removed the RAMs and put them one by one..two has become faulty. without those two the system is booting. But the problem is that the RAMs are getting too hot. and another one or two has been shot as the system start beeping in the same way (5beeps 5 blinks) when i start it for second time. For your kind information the memory fan was not there in the system. will it be the only cause of that heat? and the heat only killing the RAMs one bye one...please help as soon as possible.

The memory in these workstations tends to run hot, and there is a free program from CPUID.com called HWMoniter which allows you to see the temps of those and other parts of the system.  You don't need the Pro version, which is not free.

The memory fans for these workstations need to be in place, or you can overheat and ruin memory sticks.  Some sticks can handle more heat than others, but these workstations are meant to have the memory fans going over the sticks, for sure.  I have posted in here on using the combined rear/memory fans unit from an xw8600 in an xw8400.  Vice versa will work too, but the memory fan from the xw8600 is a larger quieter 92x92x25mm fan rather than the smaller 80x80x25mm fan in the xw8400.  The black plastic parts that hold the two fans are cannot be mixed around.... you need the two from an 8400 or the two from the 8600 to make a proper unit (which then could fit properly in either an 8400 or an 8600).

Now, hopefully you are missing just the memory fan and not missing that fan and its black plastic holder.  Soon I'll add in info on the memory fan you need, and those same ones are used in the xw6600 memory fan holder.

Here is the readout from the xw8400 I am working on now, and please note that you can get some of the temp and fan speed info directly from the BIOS in the xw8600 (and xw6600):

The 92x92x25mm PWM controlled memory fan that HP uses in both the xw6600 and the xw8600 is the NMB-MAT 3610RL-04W-B56 fan, with a standard 4-wire PWM white plug in the end, with 2 guide rims on either side of 3 of the 4 pin holes.  This draws .38 amps, max, at 12v DC, without any PWM throttle.  In normal use the PWM throttle drops the rpms to what HP designed into the motherboard fan controller.

The exact same fan with a brownish 4 wire plug, with 2 guide rims at the outside of the 4 pin holes is intended for case cooling, but you could fit one of those on instead.  There are two of those type of brown plug fans in the xw6600's rear black exhaust fan holder.  If I recall correctly the brown plug type can fit on a white plug type motherboard header, but not the other way around.

You can get those off eBay, and several web sources.  The HP part number for the official white standard type PWM plug is 446343-001, and for the HP-specific brownish PWM plug is 453473-001.  You can take a brown plug off and put a white plug on.  There likely will be some wire length differences.  The FB1 "subtype" you see on the fan label refers to the particular wire/plug type HP had NMB put on that part.  The FB3 subtype is the brown plug end fan.  Otherwise they are identical.  Google will find you a web source, and a pic is below:
