Good evening. I'm a happy owner of HP Z400 Workstation 6-Core Intel Xeon W3680. It would be nice to have an option in the BIOS for a "high performance mode" when running Xeon W3680 or W3690 CPUs (0nly these instances), so that there was the chance to set CPU frequency @4,00Ghz. In fact these processors (W3680 and W3690 are unlocked) can easily run @4,40Ghz safe and sound even air cooled. What about it? BTW I've switched from Apple to HP and I think these workstations are better than Mac Pro (3.1->5.1), I mostly use Linux for my daily working. Thank you for reading this post.

Hi,
I love the Z400 as well. I find them really easy to upgrade and service.
The Z400 does have a "Turbo Mode" that allows you to run the CPU at a higher than normal rate. To get there in BIOS:
- Go to Power
- Go to Hardware Power Management
- Enable Turbo Mode
- Save and Exit
In addition, your processor might support Hyper-Threading:
- Go to Advanced
- Go to Processors
- Enable Hyper-Threading
Let us know how it goes.
I work for HP.

Thank you for your quick replying. The option "enable turbo boost" under Power>Hardware power management is just the stock Intel Turbo boost technology enabling, very poor because it boosts 133Mhz and nothing more, so you can "bump" from 3,33Ghz to 3,46Ghz (this in Xeon W3680 instance) and it's way too few, this CPU can perform a LOT faster with no risk, that's why I made my request to enable 4,00Ghz otherwise we won't see any remarkable benefit, hope you agree....

Hi,
I agree that the speed bump you're seeing isn't much of a difference. Unfortunately, I believe that MB has the overclocking features locked out. I know there are some SW solutions to overclock like SetFSB. Note that using these may void your warranty.
