Hi All,
I have a new HP Z640 Workstation. This has two 3TB HDD drive attatched to it. I am trying to install Windows 7 OS on it for the very first time. While in setup screen, its normally shows the Drive & then we need to create partions. But actually the setup is not showing any Hard Drive at all.
Do I need to install Drivers for the HDD?
Any BIOS settings that I need to configure. I need to actually configure RAID 1. Please help me with the steps to configure RAID because this is the first time we are working on Z640 machine.
Thanks in advance!

Separate to any HDD size issues, if your Z640 is like my Z210 (though bigger, newer, faster, better) and it uses an Intel RAID capable chipset, you may need to install the iRST F6 drivers at Win7 install time...
Look at the contents within the latest iRST driver update for your Z640 using 7-zip, it may contain f6flpy-x86 and x64 zip files/directories... Follow the instructions with the readme file...
Also note that if you have multiple HDD, you may still need to first create a RAID array before the OS sees any HDD even though you may have loaded the iRST F6 drivers...
To get around any size issues, you may be able to create one 2GB or smaller raid0 array for the OS and use the remaining space for another raid0 array for data.

I have entered into BIOS & under UEFI Drivers I have clicked 3rd Party Option ROM Management & booted the computer & then I have configured the RAID1 (Mirror) volume by entering into Intel (R) RSTe.
And then I have booted the computer with the installation DVD drive but then also I can't see the the Hard Drives in Setup Window while installation.
Do I need to install any Driver for the Hard Drives to get recognized by the OS Setup?
Please help me. Thanks in advance!

Hi Souravdgupta,
If you are trying to install Windows 7 using Microsoft Windows installer disks on your z640, you will need to select the option to include addational drivers during the first part of the OS install. Withouth the chipset and SATA controller drivers, the OS install will fail since Windows 7 was made long before the z640 was developed.
The drivers for the system board chipser can be found at:
The drivers for Intel RST SATA controllers can be found at:
Once you have downloaded the softpaq file, run it so it will extract out into the SWSETUP folder. Copy the contents of that SWSETUP folder to a USB 2.0 thumbdrive. It is very important to use a USB 2.0 thumb drive as you may need to use the USB 2.0 ports on the rear of the machine. (This depends on the age of your windows disks, I suggest just using usb 2.0 right off the bat.)
Once you have the files on your USB 2.0 thumb drive, insert it in the rear USB 2.0 ports (USB 2.0 has black plastics in the plug, USB 3.0 ports have blue plastics in the plug.) Then begin your windows installation. Early on in the install you will have the option to 'include additional drivers' select this option and point the installer to each INF file in the SW setup folder you copied. This will get your windows install to see the drives connected to your SATA controler.
From this point forward you install the OS as you normally would. Don't forget to install all the other drivers as well once you are in the OS. You can download all the drivers for your Z640 from:

Hi,
Ok, HDD is detected by selecting the Add Driver wizard from the OS Setup Screen. And OS also installed but now we are trying to install Device drivers for HP Z640 machine. We are using Windows Embedded Standard 7 OS.
I have downloaded the drivers from HP website (http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=6978836&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4059) but still its has the above missing drivers in Device Manager.
