This is about my HP w1907.

The power button comes on (blue).

The display shows everything on the screen for a split-second, then the entire screen blanks out.

It doesn't turn off completely because you can kind of tell that it turns off when you turn the power off.

You know how even though the screen is blank, you can tell it's getting power? And then when the power is off, it seems to get even blacker?

That's what it does.

Any advice on what I can do?

I think this monitor is a little more than a year old.

Thanks!

First thing I'd do is hot connect it to another PC/Notebook that is using 1024x768 as a display resolution. Turn the monitor off, pull the power plug, wait 10 seconds, plug it in again and turn it on.

Thanks for the advice. I tried, but it didn't work. Also, I kind of hit the back of the monitor a little (nothing to rough), and tried it. It worked a little longer, then went off again. That happened a few times. Now it's back to turning off immediately.

I definetly think the monitor should be replaced if it's still in warranty.

Try calling the 800-4746836 (800-HP INVENT) number.

If it doesn't work and behaves in the same way on 2 different pcs, then it's a faulty monitor.

I have the same problem.  I've located it to the AC plug on the monitor.  There is a short or some manufacturing problem.  I have tried difference cords.  It will flick on and off.  Sometime is on for a while.  When I move the cord during black screen it does flicker, thats whey I know the problem is in the monitor AC area.

I also have a hp w1907 monitor which also powered on for a second and then go blank with the power light still on.. it was out of warranty so I had no loss so I took it apart..I found one of the wires broken at one of the backlight bulbs { becarefull they are fragile and there is four of them, two on the top and two on the bottom... and the lcd screen is very fragile }  I soldered the wire back on and it all work fine... just remember where all the screen parts go..

I have the same problem right after my warranty ended plus my graphics card fan has stopped which I am warned about on booting every time.

I started a thread on my own forum because there is a lot of discussion about this. It is out of order and I don't doubt for a second that HP knows the length of life of the components in their monitors. All of these things are tested and your talking about components used for years. They know the score by now.

I have the same problem.

But I notice the monitor is still displaying with the backlight off.  Did anyone figure out how to fix this problem?

it is most likely one of the backlight bulbs have a wire burnt off one end... all they are is small florescent lights bulbs.. there is four of them, two on top and two on the bottom of the screen.. they can be repaired but they are very fragile screen bulbs and all.. be careful
