I can't connect to my PS3 thru HDMI. It can't connect either to my laptop through HDMI. It works fine when I use DVI. Is the HDMI port on the monitor faulty?

On the font panel there is a icon on the bottom right side of the monitor. That will select the video input signal. The factory default by priority is DVI, VGA, and then HDMI. Only select models have the HDMI input active. Are you certain that your Monitor

has that capability?

Hi,

Check the HDMI cable on a known good HDMI device.

Review the PS3 video output settings.  You need to run progressive "P" video output -----> 1080P.

As Eric has recommended, be sure that the monitor is set for HDMI.

Yes I'm sure my monitor has that capability. I turned off auto-switch source and changed my default source to hdmi. It still does not work for me.

I'm having the same exact problem.  I bought the monitor on 11/13/2011 and am not able to connect a device via HDMI.  I have used a PS3, and my PC and a Laptop.  the Monitor shows the error that says "Check Video Cable"  I've tried three diffrent HDMI cables as well,.

Hi,

Try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up.  If anything else is connected to the monitor then disconnect those cables before doing monitor reset. Now recheck the video source on the monitor to make sure it is set to HDMI.

I did just as you asked and I get the same thing check signal cable.  If the monitor is in sleep/standby mode and I plug the HDMI cable in it wakes up and displays the Check signal cable so it senses that something is connected to it but isn't getting signal.  Is there a specific length or cable type we should be using, like HDMI 1.4 or 1.3?  When I have just the HDMI cable connected and the monitor says check signal cable, I am not able to use any of the buttons to get to the On Screen Display.  If I plug the DVI (PC) and HDMI (Playstation3) cable in and check the status it shows DVI: active and HDMI: no Signal.  If I swap the Playstation and PC around and use HDMI for the PC and DVI for the playstation i get the same results.  HDMI: no signal

Hi,

If your PC can't drive the HDMI port on the monitor then the HDMI port is probably bad. Again, only use one cable to the monitor until the issue is resolved.

If the monitor is less then a year old then contact HP Support.

HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.

Are you indicating that the HDMI port on the PC is bad or the monitor?  I am able to use the same HDMI cable to a different monitor without issue in both instance of the playstation and the computer.  How would I go about getting the Monitor HDMI Port repaired on this monitor I purchased less than a week ago?

Hi Loaks,

If the PS3 or the PC can't drive the HDMI port on the monitor then the monitor is probably faulty.

HP monitors have a 21 day return policy.  After that, it becomes a warranty issue.

I am loathe to recommend adapters but could could try a DVD-D to HDMI adapter and then use the DVI-D port on the monitor.

Check with HP Support to see if there are any reported issues with HDMI on the HP 2311x monitor.
