HP Paviliion 23
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

my computer shut down and when restarting is now saying Windows has failed to start.

And now saying I need to  - 1. Need a Windows Installation disc to start  2. The status error: 0xc0000185

I dont have the installation disc and require one that will restart my computer without me losing any of my files.

Do you know where I could get the Windows installation disc to restart not losing any of my files?

Hi,

You can download Windows 8.1 directly from Microsoft and create a bootable pendrive or DVD. You need to download the media creation tool and run. You can choose to create a bootable pendrive or download iso and create a disk.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8

You could also  access your files for backup by attaching the hard drive to a different computer and tranfering the files for backup.

Let me know if you need any further help,

David

When you do have the Installation Disk, be careful to choose the "Repair" option, not the "Install Windows" option.

If you did choose "Install", you could "wipe" your disk-drive, and thus LOSE ALL OF YOUR FILES.

Ouch!
