Hi @wflint,

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that you are unable to close the top cover of your HP Officejet 6300 All-in-One Printer.

This could be a hardware issue with the unit.

Hence, please contact HP Phone Support for further assistance at the link: www.hp.com/contacthp

Discovered both rear hinges had sheared from the case.

Since HP doesn't sell replacement hinges but, instead, recommends you junk the printer and buy a new one from them, I found the following fix on the web and did the following:

Removed the bottom pair of broken hinges from rear of unit.

Result: Top rests on bottom portion of unit. Runs fine without hinges.

Problem solved [no thanks to HP]

Hi @wflint,

I understand that you removed the bottom pair of broken hinges from the rear of the unit and hence the top portion rests on the bottom portion of the unit and now the cover can be closed.

I appreciate your time and patience and all your effort in resolving this issue.

Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
