Grid lines are created by applications who may need it inside the application, but on desktop?
You can create a background picture by yourself with grid lines, else I've never heard about such an option.

Thanks V....I'm familiar with the gridlines in other applications...It would be great to have the desktop set up simiilar to PPT and have items snap to gridlines. I just want to have the desktop - icons, sticky notes, etc. well-organized.
Thanks again!

Well, you can switch on the option to use a grid for desptop icons, but you will not see any lines. (Desktop - RMB - first option)
