Without telling us what you ARE seeing on your desktop, we can't really tell you how to fix it.
Here is a thread with an image of what a desktop SHOULD look like -- along with tips for fixing Start Menu problems: https://mspoweruser.com/solution-start-menu-not-working-windows-10/
By the way, there is no "Start" button in Win10; instead, there is a "windows" symbol where the start button used to be.
