Hi,
Based on its specs, its native resolution is 1600x900. That resolution is its optimum therefore no need to change it unless you play some games which require lower resolution. Here is how to change screen resolution in XP:
Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
Move the Screen resolution slider to the left to decrease the resolution of your monitor, making text and pictures appear larger. Or move the Screen resolution slider to the right to increase your monitor’s resolution, making text and pictures appear smaller.
Click Apply to have the new resolution take effect.
If the Monitor Settings dialog box appears, look at your display. If you like the new resolution, click Yes. If you do not like the resolution, click No, and return to step 3 to try a different resolution.
Click OK.
Regards.

I have a dell dimension 4600. however I had it "tuned up" and added memory to it so now what I have is:
Win XP Pro ServicePack3
3GB RAM
graphics card is what came with the computer 10 years ago...Intel 82865G
My old monitor died so I purchased 2 HP S2031s. I also purchased a kensington DisplayLink to attach the 2nd monitor.
Whats weird is that the 2 monitors run different resolutions...ie the one which is being driven by the embedded Intel card only allows for a max resolution of 1280 X 768 whereas the Kensington DisplayLink connected one runs at 1600X900.
I cant get the two screens to be similar in their view...which is driving me a little crazy.
Any suggestions on how I get the monitor to display its optimum resolution/performace with the Intel graphics card?
Thanks, Omar
