HP 110-210 Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey all, I bought this HP 110-210 desktop computer refurbished in April. I just upgraded my internet to Gigabit speeds with my internet service provider. After speedtests, this computer was only maxing at 100 mbps. After doing more research on why this was happening, I came to learn that my computer only has a 10/100 speed LAN.

So I went out an purchased a USB to Gigabit adapter, that reaches 1000 mbps speed if plugged into a usb 3.0 driver. After doing this, my computer is still only reaching about 210 mbps which is extremely dissappointed considering the fact I spent $39.99 to solve this problem.

Is it only reaching 211 mbps speed thru usb 3.0 because the usb 3.0 system is defective or something?

After this roadblock, I decided to finally openup my system to see if I can just install a gigabit network card to replace the 10/100 one that was already installed. After seeing no expandable port, I checked my stats for the hp 100-210 on hp.com and they say there is only One PCI Express half-length mini card socket.

What Can I do to recieve my gigabit speeds that I pay for through this computer?

Thanks,

Gur

Hi,

Motherboard of your machine is

Figure : Motherboard top view
Image of motherboard
  • Manufacturer: Foxconn
  • Form factor: Customized uATX
  • Dimensions: 17.8 cm (7.01 in) x 17.0 cm (6.69 in)
  • Chipset: Combined with the processor
  • Memory sockets: 2 DDR3 SODIMMs
  • Processor socket: None (processor is soldered to the motherboard)
  • Expansion slots: One PCI Express half-length mini card socket

USB - NIC adapter is the way to go. I'm using the following one and get full speed

You may have to talk with your ISP and ask them to test the link

Thank you for your quick and detailed reply!!

I have this adapter http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/insignia-insignia-portable-usb-3-0-to-rj45-ethernet-adapter-ns-p...

I spoke with my isp and had them run tests there was no problem from their end. So i connected the modem to my other devide (macbook pro) using the usb to ethernet adapter (cuz macbooks dont have ethernet slot) and was shocked to see how the speeds on the macbook using same connecting ethernet cord was reaching 700 mbps on a usb 2.0. slot !!

Do you have any other idea where the bottleneck might be since my hp 110 210 is my main computer

Disable the internal LAN card first. Reboot. Then go to the network settings and choose the Gigabit LAN adapter. Go to settings of this. There go to the network card and press CONFIGURE. In ADVANCED options check the speed.
