Hp Compaq dx2300 Microtower CPU Upgrade requires bios upgrade

Hey, my Hp compaq dx2300 microtower came with an E4400 core2duo CPU, I got an E8400 CPU since they share the same compatible LGA socket on the motherboard and it fits perfectly, only the pc won't boot, then read around some sites said it is supported by my MSI 0A90 motherboard, others only stated up to E6700, what I don't understand is why wouldn't it work? i have bios v1.14 (latest on driver list dated "2008"!!!!) and can't seem to find any solution to this, please tell me what to do i don't want to be stuck with a CPU i can't use cause there isn't a way to make motherboard read it, thanks in advance!

Hi:

Unfortunately, you are stuck with an E8400 that won't work in that PC.  See page 4.

An E8400 processor will not work under any circumstances with the Intel 94x chipset, or 96x chipset.

In order to run an E8400 in a PC, it needs an Intel Series 3 or Series 4 chipset.

Of course a processor has to fit in a socket, but that is not the only criteria needed for it to work.

ok how about i change the motherboard with for example one with Intel G41 chipset? is it possible then? any problems in changing my motherboard?

I have never tried to install a non standard motherboard in a HP business desktop, so I cannot answer that question.

Well I tried just a while ago, its not possible, the slots at the back of the case are custom punched in, other main boards that seem to match the one installed are off those holes by a few millimeters, which is a really bad thing the back of the case should be detachable to be able to add any main board you want as in non OEM cases, now if I ever want to upgrade I have to get a whole new case while i like mine already
