Hi,
I have an HP pavilion p6-2100 running Windows 8.1 Pro. I have gone in the bios setting and enabled the hardware vritualization settings and gone into windows and tried to enable it there. It still states that Hyper-V can not be enabled because it is not enabled in the firmware. I exited, restarted, again went into the bios setting and made sure that I saved the changes on exit. It was still enabled. Am I doing something wrong?
I followed this thread but unfortunately, HP never issued an answer. I completeld everything stated by HP support and it still does not work. I am running the same AMI BIOS they are running.

I finally was able to get Hyper-V to work, though it was not through conventional methods. The Hyper-V platform option was still greyed out in add/remove windows functions. I thought I would share this so that if anyone else had the same issues that I had, they could use the method that I used and see if it works for them.
I opened the command prompt with administrative rights. At the command prompt I typed the following:
C:\Windows\system32>dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:microsoft-hyper-v-all
The following should appear after you hit enter:
Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 6.3.9600.17031
Image Version: 6.3.9600.17031
Enabling feature(s)
[==========================100.0%==========================]
The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation.
Do you want to restart the computer now? (Y/N)
Hit "y" and your computer should shut down and configure the new features and start back up. You can double check to see if all components were installed by going back into the add/remove windows features. Click on Hyper-V and expand it. All boxes should be checked.
Everything works as it should.
**Note that is was a work around for my system. Virtualization technology was enabled in my BIOS but windows did not recognize that it was. This procedure may not work for everyone.***

Hi Matt,
Of course there are takers out here. Your best option is to search the desktop topics on the following tags:
VT, virtualization, hyper-V
I think what you will find will be an eye opener.

OK, I have read, and read, and read. I have too much rattling around in my head. Enabling Hyper-V in Windows and in BIOS, I have done. For some reason, Windows is stating that it is not enabled in the firmware. Are there any additional steps other that that one BIOS setting to enable it that need to be taken?. I don't mind reading or looking for it if you would point me in the right direction.

Hi,
Open up the RUN window and enter: msinfo32.exe
Hyper-V on my PC indicates YES for four (4) items (intel based).
My understanding of the newer AMD hardware that virtualization is automatic and built in. I could be wrong though.
Power off your PC and wait 5 minutes and then power up.(MS tip) If you are running Secure Boot enabled then Disable it and see it that makes a difference.
You may have to go back an uncheck Hyper-V before enabling the BIOS setting. And then if Windows indication virtualization is enable then enable Hyper-V in Windows and reboot.
I am sure that there is a set procedure in which things must be done in the right order or virtualization is not going to work.

Currently I have not enabled the Hyper-V function in windows. The last 4 entries on my msinfo32.exe system information is as follows:
Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware No
Hyper-V - Data Execution Protection Yes
I enabled the hardware virtualization in BIOS:
I rebooted the computer, shut down the computer for 10 minutes and rebooted. I still have the same information showing in the msinfo32.exe system information after Virtualization was enabled in the BIOS:
Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware No
Hyper-V - Data Execution Protection Yes

My computer boots in UEFI mode. I verified this in the System Information. My AMD A4-3420 Dual Core processor supports it and its auto enabled in the processor. The referenced link shows what it would look like for an Intel based system. This is what my AMD based system cammand line looks like. Is there another DOS based command that would give you anything more specific?
