Thanks Dave. I thought of this as well, that would have been a very good option. The only problem was that I had already bought a $30 usb to SATA converter.

Your solution would have been the best, though, because at that point I could use the external optical drive on whatever computer I wanted, and also I wouldn't be able to accidentally eject the HDD that is now basically functioning as an external hard drive.

I was unaware that the motherboard was going to be so bare bones, but now I realize you really do get what you pay for in a computer.
