G7Pavillion 1139
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My hard drive failed on my Pavillion G7 laptop. Ibought a new drive and changed it. Tested my new hard drive and it passes, went to the BIOS screen chaned the boot option to boot on CD/dwr drive.

Inserted my back up discs. I hear them being read, when done I get a  a no bootable disc found on the screen.

I also copied the computer on a portable drive.

In all this somehow I dont think I have copied the OS, or I have it and dont know how to seperate it out for instllation.

The computer had windows 7 premium home version on it.

How can I get an operating system  that will work on my computer?

Hi:

If you can still read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on your PC's case, you can make your own plain W7 installation media to reinstall W7.

This site claims to have genuine, unadulterated W7 ISO files for download...

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-iso-download-tool

Click on the link labeled Windows ISO Downloader.exe

You can use either the:

Win 7 Home SP1 or the (Retail version, but the  OEM key on your PC's case will work with it)

Win 7 Home SP1 COEM (This version would be for what HP would have used--System Builder)

N is for European Union (EU) countries.

K is for South Korean markets.

Then you can use this tool to transfer the file to a 4 GB USB flash drive or a DVD.

If the suggestion by Paul is above your tech skill level you can buy a new set of recovery disks for your system. You should be able to locate them here: RestoreDisks.com
