I have a fairly decent system, but it is just a bit too old to have the PCI Express slot for the new video cards, I heard about an adapter will this work ? Or is there any other way to upgrade the video card?
Product name: HP Pavilion a6552f Desktop PC
4 Gigs RAM
Quad 2.4 processors
64 bit operating system
Windows Vista Home premium

Hi:
The PCIe slot is that longer black slot underneath and to the left of the square onboard video aluminum finned heatsink.
Your PCIe slot is probably PCIe x16 1.1 and can run any PCIe x16 2.0 video card that is within the limits of your power supply.
You are correct...PCI and PCIe slots are not the same.
Those 2 little black slots are PCIe x1 slots and normally are used for add on network and audio cards.
The white slot on the bottom of the picture is the PCI slot and it can also be used for network, audio cards, etc.
You want to use the large black PCIe x16 slot for a video card for the best video performance from an add-on card.

Hi,
I don't think build a high speed lane for 400kmh cars for a slow 100kmh car will make the car run faster.

The HP a6552f specs are HERE and the motherboard specs are HERE. What gives you the impression the computer is too old to have a PCIe slot??? I have a 6 y/o HP computer that has a PCIe x16 slot and I installed a HP OEM AMD Radeon HD 6450 in it without any trouble. According to the specs, your computer has one PCIe x16 slot for a graphics card, two PCIe x1 slots for other adapter cards and one PCI slot for other adapter cards.
According to the specs, your computer already has a GeForce 9500 GS discrete graphics card installed from the factory. It also has a 300 watt PSU, so you should be able you upgrade your graphics card a little without needing a new PSU.

I provided you with the correct answer... HP's system specs shows the wrong infomation but their motherboard specs have the right information. If you click on your link to the motherboard specs and click the plus next to expansion slots, you will notice that the correct infomation is displayed.
